The funeral service provided by the TWGHs Coffin Home has an over- a century long history dating back to the 1890s. The need for the service has greatly declined in recent years and the compound has turned into a historic relic. The Board of the TWGHs has decided to restore the estate in order to preserve the history and the tradition carried
behind it.

The project was recognized by the HKSAR Government with the major Award of Honours in the 2004 Hong Kong Heritage Award. It was further honoured in the 2005 UNESCO Asia-pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural heritage Conservation.
